I’m the kind of nature-loving digital marketer who loves to get inspired online. So when I started looking for work fresh out of university, with bold plans to work as an environmental scientist, I often found myself browsing the websites and social media pages of environmental organisations, sustainability companies, and eco-minded entrepreneurs.

At first, I thought that the poorly designed websites and lacklustre social media presence of so many of these brands was down to a lack of need to invest in these areas, but I quickly realised that a professional, engaging website and a social media presence to match was actually essential to their business models. I couldn’t help thinking, do these organisations not know what they’re missing out on?

So I started reaching out and offering my digital marketing strategist services in social media management and website design for small business and beyond.

And that’s how Step(h) into Nature Creative was born.

Let’s start at the very beginning…

It all began with a passion for nature

After graduating with a BSc in Biosciences and getting stuck in with fieldwork around the globe, I started pursuing a career path as a research scientist specialising in tropical rainforests. 

Soon enough, I’d graduated with an MRes in Tropical Forest Ecology. But in the back of my mind, I knew that I wasn’t utilising my best skill in my quest to have a real impact on wildlife conservation: my creativity.

So when the pandemic hit after completing my Masters degree, putting my plans of applying for PhDs on hold, I decided to lean into my fledgling science communications work online with the goal of inspiring people to care about the natural world so that they want to take action to protect it. 

Suddenly, organisations were reaching out to work together on their online presence and I was getting paid to do everything from designing websites to creating social media posts and writing articles. 

Finally, I could flex my creative muscles and still try to make a difference in protecting the natural world. I felt like I had found my calling.

Now, I get to work with all kinds of environmental organisations and eco-conscious business owners to improve their online presence through website design and social media consulting so that they can have the impact that they need, and it has introduced so much freedom, creativity, and purpose to my life.
